Title: Wacky Racer
Post by: john2 on July 10, 2019, 10:53:42 AM
This is my homemade body car as the experiment for later on trying to  design and build a 1/25 Piper Cub/like model airplane.  As you plane guys know there are few 1/25 size kits to work with, and 99% of plastic model airplanes are war planes  --  of little interest to me.

So .....  I fashioned this slab sided body, held together by " formers or bulkheads "  at the firewall and rear window positions, and used my parts box for everything  else.  I learned that it is a doable project, but  that I must I must get a much better fit of the parts.

It has been probably the most fun model I ever built.  It got third in the open wheel comp class at Memphis.

Part brushed part sprayed, some decals and some hand lettering.

Hope you like it.

John, the Evergreen sheets can be bent pretty easily as long as you have a nice straight edge to get the crease going. Also, small Evergreen angle pieces and flat pieces glued in from the inside really help. Finally, you can overlap joints and then sand down the excess from the inside. Lot's of little "tricks" that really help tighten things up. By the way, congrats on the award!
