Here's a new replica I'm working on, of the Gastrock's Special, Buick powered number 12, driven by Frankie Thompson.
I believe this is the 1964 version. These were cut down coupes referred to as Bugs here in central Pa.

I'm using a super modified resin body from Big Donkey Resin.
The narrowed frame comes with the body. It makes a good shelf build.

The first thing I need to do is remove the roof.

Then the roof needs to be shortened about 6 MM.

Now the roof needs to be moved back into the trunk area to the black line.

You can see by the side panels, how far everything moved back, by the overhang on the body sides.

Excess body sides removed from the front.

I still need to fill in the back fender area openings and putty the seams, more updates as I progress with the build.
I hope you enjoy following along with this one.
Bob
Going to be fun to watch. Keep those updates coming.
Small update.
I built an air cleaner for the fuel injection unit.
It's layers of plastic, with a tie wrap bent around it for the filter element.
The top cover is thin Aluminum center punched to look like bolt heads.

Getting the body, hood and front end located on the build. Rub rails attached, plastic coated wire.

WOW ! ! !
Looking sharp Bob! A great idea with the tie wrap air filter....really enjoying your updated progress! These cars were considered 'super modifieds' in our area.
Thanks for the interest guys.
These cars were super modified's here in Pa. also. When they started shortening and narrowing the bodies many referred to them as Bugs.
Bob
Great fab work Bob can't wait to see this one done.
Al
Sweet fab work, Bob! And I agree with BobD on the tie wrap air filter!
Another small update.
Front bumper, shock mounts and rear bumpber mounts in place. also a little more sizing and fitting of other parts.

Air cleaner sent to Big Donkey resin to have a mold made. This should be available to everyone in resin.

Man Bob...you're doing some mighty fine FAB work here. This is really looking good!!
I really like the Nailhead and your Ty-rap air cleaner! Great work
What a great build. I love the custom fabricating a lot. This was real racing, not wallet racing, where the fattest wallet wins. Some of these guys were incredible engineers, and likely had little or no formal education, In engineering, or anything else for that matter. In those days problem solving every day, was education enough.
