couldn't really figure out what section to put this in, but since USAC was involved in the Indy 500 in 1972 i thought this would be as good a section as any ;D
Mark Donohue's 1972 Indy 500 winning #66 Sunoco Offy powered McLaren. pretty sure i read that this was the first 500 win for Penske. my how time (and the 500 wins) flies.
this is a 1974 McLaren kit from AMT, closest thing i could find. did a few modifications and the rear wing is 3d printed, got it off Shapeways a looooong time ago. there have been many trials and tribulations with this kit, from the Fred Cady decals not holding up (mostly the pinstripes), the car not sitting level (had to shim the right front wheel pins with small sections of tube so that wheel would touch the ground), the rear wing not having a spot to sit on the mounting piece (ended up using some styrene strip to shim that too). front wings sit weird. rear wing isn't level but it's as good as it's gonna get. done with this one.
oh yeah, paint is Tamiya Racing Blue if anyone is interested in a decent match for 1960s-1970s Sunoco blurple ::)

Not bad, considering all the obstacles you had to deal with.
Looks awesome like all of your builds, Dave. Thanks for the tip on the paint color. I have a 68 penske car I want to build. I guess it should come in the small acrylic bottles too?

I just looked on the interwebs and didn't see it in acrylic. There is lacquer in a jar, LP 45, if you want to go that route. Or you could slum it up like us peasants ;D and use a rattle can
