DK: If you look up the word madness in the dictionary, it would be defined as a state of frenzied or chaotic activity. And if you ask someone in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, they'll say it's a little quarter mile track around a football stadium. Hello and welcome to Bowman Gray Stadium, the track they call the Madhouse! I'm Dave Knight, alongside Darrell Waltrip and it's about to get wild as race 5 in the 2025 Fantasy Cup Series season is about to get underway. It's the Hayes Jewelers 150. DW, This place has a lot of history, doesn't it?
DW: It sure does, Dave. This place has had racing since before NASCAR and it's the longest running weekly track. The NASCAR Cup Series came back here for the first time since 1971 and the last time the Fantasy Cup cars ran here was 2020. Jimm Jackson won that race.
DK: And with that, we go trackside!
Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats for our national anthem.

And now, race fans, please welcome our grand marshall, 12-time Bowman Gray modified series champion Tim Brown!
TB: Drivers, start your engines!
Green Flag
DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' at the Madhouse!
DK: And Sealey off to a nice start flanked by teammate Billy Hobin. They make their way down the back stretch. Laps click off fast here at the famed quarter mile. Sealey slips a little, Dude Watson hangs tough on the outside. They're door-to-door but Sealey holds him off by inches to lead the opening lap.
Lap 15
DK: And we've got a spinner in turn 1. Amy Hilton's Buick loops around. Slight contact with the new SAFER barrier and she'll drive off and rejoin the field.
DW: These corners are so tight that you run your inside tires right up against those drains and it looks like Sheldon Hatterfield got on one and got loose. Hollywood was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Lap 67
DW: Man, Steve Hutson just put a really good move on David Johnson. He shot down to the inside and just hammered it into the 3rd spot.
DK: And Johnson's troubles aren't over yet. Rattlecan Dan stays glued to Hutson's bumper and holds serve out of turn 4.
Lap 99
DK: And we've got trouble off of turn 4! Billy Hobin pushed it wide out of the turn. He had a slight advantage over the 00 of Watson but bounces the right side of his Ford off of the kicked out portion of the wall and right into Watson's Buick.
DW: A lot of damage on those 2 cars and they're gonna have to leave on the back of a wrecker.
DK: You see Hobin checking on Watson. Both men out of the cars and walking as the crowd applauds. That was a hard hit. Good to see both of these guys able to walk away.
Lap 127
DK: And Sealey, who has led since the outset of this race suddenly has an empty patch of asphalt to his inside whis is quickly filled by the 8 of Hutson! He started 8th but avoided the 2 incidents we've had and has muscled hes way to the top. He'll get the advantage out of turn 2 and behind by half a car length is the 6 of "Rattlecan Dan" DiRenzo!
White Flag
DK: And we've got 1 lap to go at the Madhouse! Steve Hutson, who started out racing street stocks at Atomic Speedway just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee has a good advantage over Rattlecan Dan comes out of turn 2. He'll hammer down the back stretch, downshifting for the final time in turns 3 and 4 and that's gonna be enough to hold off the 6. Steve Hutson wins the Hayes Jewelers 150 at Bowman Gray!

DW: Man, what a run for that team. From the bottom of the heap all the way to victory lane! Heck of a job!
DK: Indeed, DW. Meanwhile, our points leader Sheldon Hatterfield stretches his lead to an 18 point advantage over David Johnson. Johnson only has 1 finish outside the top 4 this season. And with that, we'll wrap things up here in Winston-Salem. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. Thank you for joining us and we'll see you next week at Potomac Speedway for the DieHard 100!

I would like to thank Ford Motor Company, Bull Run Creek Motorsports, my Crew Chief Speedracer and of course the great crowd here at the Madhouse, Bowman Gray Stadium. Who would have ever imagined that a young, upstart, rookie team and driver could pull off such a great victory with this stacked field!!! I hope that the drivers involved in the hard crash are okay.
.... From the checkers to the wrecker for ole' Dude. Looks like an interesting 3 way tie for 3rd in points is shaping up.
