Well folks...this Trailer is from the Revell 1/24 Modified/Trailer kit that I picked up at a show. It didn't have the Super in it so I got it at a decent price. The Trailer is 1/24 and the rest of the team( Truck--Sprintcar) is in 1/25..but I like the tandum. So..I had to shorten it and take 5" out of the center.
Before & After....

I plan on building a storage box on the front and a double row tire rack above that. I'm also building cargo boxes above each fender. I'm still on the fence about the open area just behind where the 4' cargo box is going. I'm thinking Diamond plate or maybe wood planks. Here's where I'm at at this time.

Thanks for looking in and commenting....
Thanks for your input David and I don't think you're over thinking it at all. I'm running that same thought through me Brain also. I'm also thinking about diamond on the two runners if I go with the Diamond plate in the large area. I'm still on the fence about making it look halfway NEW or weathered a tad...That way I could use wood and make it look med. OLD...LOL If ya know what I mean Vern... I'll probably end up with the Diamond Plate.... Thanks for stopping in and help'in a guy out...
:) Yeah, dripping oil gets to wood anyway.
Liking where this is going....!
sort of a precursor to the enclosed trailers of today.....trying to make sure one has what they need to hit the road for various tracks.....

Better NOT be dripping oil any where....Unless the engine let go and it had to be loaded that way. Then it's straight to the wash rack for sure. Doesn't matter what time of day or night it is. Then...get it to the shop and start tear'in it down....
Hobby Lobby carry diamond tread plate in railroad area
Thanks Charlie...I assume that was info on where to get it right? Not a Question? I do have quite a bit of Diamond plate here. Just need to make the decision on whether to use it or not.
I thought of that way also.... and doing the D plate in the open area and leaving the ramps as is. We'll see when I get to that area in the build....which will be pretty darn soon.
Here's an update...The doors and slam lock holes are on(in). I'm stripping the slam locks as they are way to bright(chromed). Now the Big box is going to be built and then the tire racks. The Axles and leaf springs need to be addressed at this time also. I'm using different wheels on this puppy sooo... I need to build a mounting system for the wheels and tires.
Here's a few update pics...Thanks for stopping in and commenting...

This is looking great Gary. I'm enjoying watching this build.
Bob
Coming along quite nicely......!
Yes Gary O let you know where to get it
I'm using the double Bump(raised pattern) on the trailer. Here's where I bought the 1/48 scale single D plate. Now...I also got some 1/24 Double D plate from them and it's the same size bumps. So...I loaded up on the single bump 1/48 D plate. It looks right and it's plastic...not ABS. I do have some of the ABS stuff and you have to CA or Plastic weld to glue it. Here's the link... https://plastruct.com/product-category/plain-and-patterned-sheet/page/2/?orderby=popularity
I just went in and found the double D Plate onpage #4...it's 1/24...Ha...Go figure...it looks like they fixed their labels...At any rate...here's that page for you.. https://plastruct.com/product-category/plain-and-patterned-sheet/page/4/?orderby=popularity
Now...Don Mills carries Tread Plate but I don't see it on his site...but..There's a contact # where you can all and talk with Don. It's been awhile since I've talked with him but...he's a good guy and easy to talk with. You can ask him if he carries the D plate in 1/24-25.. Here's the site addy... http://donmillsmodels.com/
I hope this helps you Charlie....
thanks GARY
You are very Welcome Charlie.
Here's a few pics of the Double "D" plate that I'm using. The Loading ramps will have tread plate on them. I put the car on the trailer for measurements for the height of the big box and tire rack. Looks like I'm going to go with a 48" tall box. That will give a decent clearance above the nose of the car. Here's a few pics...
The Double "D" Plate...

Looks good already, what with the car sitting on it!
Curious, the tabs where the ramps "attach" to the trailer, part of the kit, or something you added?
Thanks ED. It's starting to give me that look and feel that I was after.
Those tabs were a part of the Kit Ramp support system. I cut most of it away and filled the two holes where they had the ramps slide in. I will be using a portion of those tabs for support when I fab the folding ramps.
:) I don't know about you, Gary. A ready to race open wheeler sitting on a partly built trailer, and a driver in full garb waving to no one in particular. Maybe it is the glue.

Testing the waters John...just testing the waters. Had to make a few measurements for the tire rack........ OOOOOrrrrr...maybe it is the glue!!! :o ;D

John, if you look closely the driver is saying "Uh hold on a second. I think we're going to need some wheels on this trailer before I can get to the track so maybe I will take my driver's suit back off since I jumped to gun a little!"
The trailer is looking really nice Gary!!
LOL...Well David...This is the new style of trailer...it's called a"LEVA-TATER". It don't use wheels at all. As you can see by the driver's left hand, it looks as though he wants it up a little higher.
:) Maybe the latest edition of the Airstream Trailers.
Both lookin' good, Gary. Keep'em goin".
The wheels and axles are in mock up to get a measurement for the loading ramps. The back wall of the cargo box is in and now the rest of it can be fabbed along with the tire rack.
Here's a look...

Fantastic job on the trailer and it will look great hauling that beautiful sprinter to the track.
Bob
Oh yeah! Lovin' it!!
Really good looking trailer. Please show detail on the suspension. That is one of my weakest areas, especially on double/triple axle trailers. ???
Thanks Folks for the Compliments.

Rick....On this build I'm using the Tandem spring setup that comes with the kit. But...one can build this if they choose. I did changed the ride by 2" by adding a 2" block on each axle mounting block. That raised the wheels up into the wheel wells for a better look. Here's a few pics for you....I hope this is what you were looking for..

:) I like the slant of the rear deck, the side cabinets, and the double row of tires.
WOW!!
That is coming along quite nicely!! Love it!
Thanks for sharing those pictures of the suspension. I was hoping you had scratchbuilt them and had some magic formula. However, I think I can use those pictures to scratch a vaguely recognizable set up.
Thanks John and Ed. It's going into the paint shop today.....
Rick...I hope the pics helps ya. I don't think there's a real MAGIC formula for making leaf springs suspension. I've made a few in the past and I found that the hardest part is getting all the leafs bent to the correct ride height.
Awesome trailer there Gary! can't wait to see it done. And, oh no......another guy that says "ya know what I mean Vern?"...lol
Oh GREG!! OHHHHH GREG??!! haha

Nice job Gary. I just now seen the pickup truck with camper you built also. This is going to be a nice looking race team when finished.
Thanks for the information

Hey Charlie...thank you for the compliment. This puppy is ready for paint. Had to fix a few things that needed attention. That primer has gassed out and now...it's color time... I'll post finished pics in a few days...Thanks for looking in...
This build is complete. Here are a few finished pics of it all. It's raining out (go figure) so inside shots will have to do for now. Thanks for stopping in and looking around.

Gary,
I'm having trouble putting my amazement with this project in words.
That trailer is absolutely the best trailer project I've ever seen.
The race car and the camper hauler are also fantastic.
You can be very proud of this entire race team. If they never win a race this team is a winner.
Bob
Great work, the trailer turned out very nice. Thanks for being so detailed during the process and sharing with us all.
MG
:) I have to agree with the others. That is quite a piece.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A HUGE thumbs up on this FANTASTIC build!!!!!!!!!!
Well worth the wait
IMO, this has to be just ONE of your best builds!!!!!!
WOW Great build Gary!!!
Wow, very good looking team. Every racer would be proud of such a nice trio!!
Very nice!!
Thank ALL of you folks for the GREAT compliments!
The Sun came out for this day only...and I got a few outside pics shot.

Thanks

They are from Don Mills Models.
Where did the camper come from. Or is it scratch build camper
Quote from: David Bogard on March 21, 2018, 06:21:26 PM
What do you use the electric toothbrushes for? Maybe polishing? They're either a true modeling trick or you have the best looking teeth in town! ;D
The tooth brushes are used for sanding. I save the heads from my reg. toothbrush and cut the bristles off and then shape the tip to what I need. I then cut a double sided(sticky both sides)thin foam pad onto the new shaped head...trim to the shape and then attach the grit of sand paper that I want. It works great.

The Camper is completely fabbed from plans that I drew up. I used Evergreen Plastic shapes and sheet for the material. The rear bumper was completely scratch built using Diamond plate from Don Mills and shot with the air brush with ALSA Mirror Chrome.
Hey David...I'm using the Phillips Sonicare e-series tooth brush. That's for my teeth and for the model sander( NOT the same handle for the teeth...LOL). So...it works out pretty good for replacement heads for the sander. Right now I've got plenty of heads in the storage box. The cheapest place I found to get one of those Brushes is at Target. I think thet're around $60.00. That's cheaper than Micro Marks electric model sander. I get the head refills at Walmart. They come in sets of three for around $20.00 some dollars. The double sided sticky Foam I found at Michael's Craft store.
This looks awesome, I love it.
Thanks for the look-in and compliment Slimster! Good to see ya posting...
