This is outstanding work Pikepole! Any information on your techniques and what specific cars you are trying to build? Super impressive scratch building!!

david for some reason I like whelen  modified cars. I think their engineering is really great. Being from Midwest I look up chassis shops that build them an go from their. I have some fred's and big donkey bodies that I use.  My big problem is the front suspension.
The car in picture I use a asa chassis an modified it to fit the body. so far my scratch build suspension is not to good.  I do not work
on  hobby a lot due to health.  It will take some time to get finish,but fun to work on.

If you've got some photos of a Whelen front suspension and you can send them to me (or post them) that would be great. The one or two I've built in the past were just from watching on TV and were not particularly "accurate". I think I used the front of an old Slammer Chassis. I agree with you on those cars; they are awesome looking and wicked fast!

As David says, this is really great.

Way beyond me, but I love Whelen  too, and am hoping Salvino does the one being talked about.  The only kit I intend to buy in the future.

Although I have never been to a Whelen event, and even though I lean toward vintage race cars, I do like the Whelen cars. I look forward to seeing more of your excellent work!

Not sure if these photos provide enough detail of the front suspension components you are attempting to emulate, but thought I'd post them. I can try and get some better detail shots of the the lower mounting points. May be over at the shop later in the week.

Pikepole - Really like the work on those frames.  Are you using some sort of scale drawing/template on top of that wood to lay out the main rails? If so, can you share where you got it from?

Really good shots Mark! What is the diameter of those A-Arms? I'm thinking maybe #222 Evergreen rod could be used to fabricate them as that would scale out to about 1 5/8" in 1:25 scale? 

I think A-Arms are 1inch for upper and lower 1'' or 1 1/4".

David - I think Evergreen #220 or 221 would be the scale size to use.

Whoa! I didn't know they were that small in diameter. Think #221 or #220 would be stout enough in styrene? It would certainly be easier to bend and fabricate! I'm just trying to help Pikepole get down the road with his front suspension and this is really valuable information DirtModWrench.

What size would you use for spindle?
