Short Track and NASCAR modeling

I hope people will post their decal offerings here. I always liked to check them out over at Randy's.

Just disappointed that I cannot get into the NEW Nascar scene. Don't care for the format, the cars or even the lack of personality. Maybe it's just me!

Me too, I kinda feel like I'm the only one sometimes. Stage racing, the charter system, the way that they conduct the championship and that new car have all ruined it for me.

They lost me with the "Lucky Dog" BS.  I watched Awesome Bill make up laps at Talladega to win in 1985, so this "rule" just makes no sense to me.  Of course, truly "identical" cars pretty much rules out any team gaining an advantage, for any reason.  I think NA$CAR has proven one thing: "identical" cars don't make for better racing!  Stage racing and the "playoff" system were just icing on my lost interest cake.

Spooker, I forgot about the "lucky dog" crap. I don't watch that mess anymore so I forgot the terminology. Just keep up with it on the Bologna Burger YouTube channel, straight and to the point. I hate it as I've been a fan since 1967, we used to go to two to three Cup Series races a year and watch the rest. Don't go or watch anymore. The Cars Tour, Snowball Derby, All American 400 and the Fall Nationals NHRA race get my racing dollar now. Oh well, as far as I'm concerned it's nascar's loss.

  I don't watch it anymore either.  The playoff thing killed it.  They  wreck  each other  trying to reach the next level.  Somebody is mad every week.

But the final straw for me was that there is nobody racing that I want to watch anymore.

While I've gotten used to all of the format changes and other goofy post-Bill Jr. stuff over the last 20 years, I do really miss the relative simplicity of the old days. That's back when points actually meant something. But despite all of that, the on-track product really has gotten better over the last few years and I still enjoy watching and pulling for my favorite drivers.

Also, since we have darkside and grayside, shouldn't this category be called lightside?

If you watch the races every week you can find some drivers worth rooting for but the dominate teams are starting to take over the sport again so what seemed like a promising future with the NextGen car is I guess really not. I'm still waiting for my driver to win this year, but it seems like the chances are getting less and less that he will be able to win this year and smash a watermelon which is always fun to watch.

It's not just you.

I don't want to start an argument, but the lucky dog was implemented as a safety measure.  Before the lucky dog, when the yellow came out they raced back to the start finish line.  As a courtesy the leader usually slowed down.  The lap down cars would race at full speed to try and pass the leader before he got to the start finish line to get their lap back.  There were a couple of instances where there was a wreck and a car was dead in the water on the track.  The lap down cars coming at full speed nearly hit the car that could not move on the track.  The wrecks that could have occurred with the car not being able to move on track would have been awful and would have likely resulted in serious injuries to the drivers.  The lucky dog was implemented as a way to give a car its lap back and stop the racing back to the start finish line.

As far as the racing, I may be in the minority, but I like the changes.  I still enjoy watching many of the races.  Time advances and people's tastes and preferences change.  The game played in the NFL today in no way, shape or form resembles the game played in the 70's and 80's, but they are still the most popular sport in the country and second is no where close.

I'm with you Jim. Ever since Trackhouse got in the game it's given me a team to root for again. I just don't like the way the announcers always make Ross out to be the bad guy, but when the Hendrick drivers wreck people it's always a racing deal. Just hoping it doesn't rain again this week at Nashville and Ross can repeat win there again this year.

I will admit that I'm a Ross Chastain fan, especially after his riding the wall at Martinsville and him punching Gragson when he got in Ross's face. I only watch highlights anymore, never the races. For me, when NASCAR took the car building away from the teams, they lost me. That and the charter system, stage racing and the way they do the championship. But, as always, to each his own. I follow the Cars Tour, Snowball Derby, All American 400 and pro level NHRA racing get my money.

Speaking of NHRA racing, Mark J, I'll be in Ennis, TX in October for the Fall Nationals.

Steve, I used to be a big drag racing fan back in the 60's. There was a strip relatively close to where I lived and I got my dad to take me there whenever I could talk him into it. The local champions were the Gay brothers Don and Roy. Don drove the Catalina and Roy drove the GTO. final elimination always came down to those two cars every Saturday night. Nowadays the starting line is the entrance to a Walmart store in Dickinson, Texas.

Those two cars look great! As usual, your skills shine through on each build. We go to the Fall Nationals every year, I love the Ennis area.

My dad and I always went to the east TN stock car tracks, paved or dirt. I never got into local drag racing as it was all elapsed time. Still don't understand how the guy that gets to the finish line first can lose. That's why I enjoy the big NHRA pro events so much.
