When Chevy finally came out with their small block v8 in 1955, that paired well with the lighter overall weight of the Chevy it made for a perfect race car and Smokey took full advantage of it. He had already figured out the perfect game plan for winning the Southern 500 so it was a no brainer that he and Herb Thomas won the 55 Southern 500 with relative ease. The 55 Chrysler was a potent race car as well, but its extra weight made it go through tires at an alarming rate causing extra pit stops. Smokey also used larger tires that had a harder compound that may have been truck tires or taxicab tires. My memory on that has faded. Another interesting thing about this car was the tailpipes exited through the bottom of the trunk lid through the trunk compartment

Beautiful model Mark! Is the color lite blue or lavender? Looks lavender on my phone.

 :) I love it !  Really nice.

By the way, are you Mark Jeffries from the past ? Or was that someone else ?

There was once a scratch built cube van with a trailer and racer.  Was that yours ?  It was really neat.

Very nice, clean build. Nice little accurate touch about the tail pipes.

Thanks Steve, it is light blue.

Thanks John, but I'm not him. But it's a complement that you thought I was him.

Thanks, Donato. I guess that was one of Smokeys tricks to overheat anybody who got too close to the back of the car.

HA! I see that I'm not the only one that thought you might be Mark Jeffries.

:) Ha, Steve.  Glad I thought to ask.

I'm pretty sure Mark Jeffries goes by his full name. He's up there with the top echelon of builders like Clay Kemp who use their full name when posting. But I'm still flattered that you would think that I was him. Not even close.
