I bought a few 65 and 66 Riviera Kits some years ago because I saw Red Swanberg race one in USAC at Milwaukee way back in 64! The car was pretty slow. The 360 h.p. nailhead really wasn't enough to keep up with Fords, Stroppe Mercs, and Nichels hemi's. But they looked cool and racy, that's for sure. Thanks to Hemiman and his offer for decals I am building Al Shear's (Joe'sdad) 65, Chicagoland short track car. Soemeday I hope to get decals for Red;s #51 USAC car.
I am using the AMT 66 chassis, shortened 2", suspension, motor, and running gear under the 65 body for nice details.
Here's where I am at with it so far!

Arrived as yesterday as you said. They look fantastic! Should I clearcoat them? Thank you, and thank you for the bonus sheets!

All of my decals are cleared using a Crylon UV clear or Future depending on what print system they run on Test and setting solution before applying it.

Very cool looking build.  I am not really familiar with the USAC stockers, but I have seen a few pictures and it seems they allowed almost any configuration of "stock" vehicle to run.  I have even seen a picture of a 4-door early 60's Mercury.  Looking forward to more of this build.
Anyone know where I could find more pictures of the mid to late 60's USAC stock cars?
When I win the Powerball I will switch to the real ones.

Some how I forgot that the Riv's were X frame cars. A local guy was a big Buick fan all his life, and even raced a late model powered by a 401 nailhead. You didn't  see many Buick's on the track back then, and even fewer now.
I love this build Slim, can't wait to see it finished.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Al won this Riviera for being the track champ the year before and turned it into a race car

I have heard that as well but no one in the family could confirm it when I was doing research on the decals for this and several others of his and Joe's cars..
