Race car haulers

I hope the pictures show up. I have no idea who these rigs belong to, but I sure wish that someone would make a model of a "toter-home rig or a spread axle race car trailer to hook to a tractor. I built the AMT Bill Elliott trailer years ago but those were pretty much modified moving van trailers. Wish I had the scratch building skills that some of you have. Then I might have the nerve to attempt to build one.

You could definitely haul a whole race team in one of those rigs, man they're beautiful! Building a model setup like that would be a diorama. It would hafta have a couple of racecars to go with it. It would require quite a display case to house it all too.

Definitely some beautiful rigs. I wonder what type of racers they are hauling and who their sponsors are. Some really high-dollar haulers.

I don't have a clue how to go about doing a spread axle trailer Just don't know enough about big rig trailers. To build a "slab" sided trailer, wondering if I could take flat Evergreen sheet plastic and trace the sides of an AMT Coors or Kodak trailer onto it? Just don't like the old school moving trailer look of the original kits. For their time, they looked fine for a big rig trailer, just not a race trailer.

 If it were me......
  Starting with the tractor:
  Pick your favorite  truck, stretch the frame....plenty of "how to's"out there...your going to have to scratch build the toter home portion.  The link below is for a smaller trailer than you want, but shows some of the scratch building involved with the truck and trailer.

  You can spread the axles,run triple axles, etc. with the NASCAR trailers, again by stretching the frame.  If it where me, I would go this route.  Plenty of after market available as far as a trailer suspension goes if you wanting to run spread axles, triple axles, air ride, etc. etc.  I thick it would be easier to convert one of these trailers from an 80's/90's NASCAR style to something modern like your after.

  Another possibility would be the AMT Lowboy trailer, you would still have a fair amount of scratch building, but its already a triple axle, with a drop deck

  I am having real good luck as of late sourcing truck parts and pieces from Shapeways, seen a lot of trailers there as well.

Thank you for taking a look and for your reply Brian. I remembered that you had mentioned that you were building "big trucks" and of course your AMT trash truck build. I appreciate the suggestions. I'll just need to build up my nerve. Thank to Speedracer I've sourced two AMT trailers and a Kenworth tractor.

....Sounds like your off to a great start with getting the KW and trailers, you will have plenty of good material to work with.  Also, I forgot to mention that you can search Model Truck Builder https://www.modeltruckbuilder.com/ with out joining or signing in.  I suppose I could post the trash truck, when its complete, in the Trucks, Trailers and Haulers section as the trash Truck that showed up every week during racing season to Haul off the trash.  2 out of 3 ain't bad

Please do! I mean, you could easily pull a race car with a trash truck. Folks in the pit area would talk and no one would want to park beside you, but it could be done.
