This is the car that Earnhardt drove in the 1978 World 600. He filled in for Willie T. Ribbs who got arrested for taking  the pace car and gong for a joy  ride in downtown Charlotte. That's at least what I read in wilkipedia. Who knows if that really happened.

Another interesting build from you MARK! The history is very cool along with your building talent my friend. Been wondering where you were.

A fine looking Ford you have built.....nice to see one of the more obscure cars of that era....

Really nice looking Torino, Mark. I remember it well.
I'm guessing you did the decals? If so, they are spot on !

Two things about WTR.
He pulled up next to me on the exit ramp off I-85 in Charlotte one day (near the old Digard shops.) Gave me a look and waved.....
I think one of his mistakes was when he asked in the driver's meeting at Charlotte "can you pass in the infield grass?"

...How ironic...didn't Earnhardt do a pass in the infield grass somewhere???

Nice replica - when NASCAR cars "looked" like cars! I agree with Brian - great to see something out of the ordinary!
