Camaro Late Model

This is my late model reminiscent of the 4s raced so many years by Jerry Lawley in Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida with the Allisons, Red Farmer, and Neil Bonnett, among others.  He later was the promoter at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola Fl.  Last I heard a few years back, he was living a quiet life in the mountains.

This was some sort of an IROC/Budweiser promo model that I got at a church thrift store for $ 2.  It has no engine or detail under the chassis, but a pretty complete interior.  I used the Kodiak decal number and painted yellow over it. I like it pretty well.  Cheap entertainment.

It does have an IROC "feel" to it. Although I didn't care much for the IROC races at the time, I kind of miss them these days. Nice job John!

David, just wait a year or two and NASCAR will be back to IROC for the Cup series - if they are still in business.

Nice looking Camaro, John!  I like the way you added to the spoiler and put your own touch to it!  I had one of those promos back in the early 80's.  They were originally sold at True Value Hardware stores with True Value logos.  Seems like they could be had with the different colors, numbers and drivers names.  Mine was red like yours.  Nice build!!!

Greg, appreciate the info.  This one was a red # 12, with Bud and TV on it, plus IROC Z on the sides baked on, I guess.  I just painted over it all and tried to stick as many white decals on it as I could make fit.

An artist's trick to draw attention away from the flaws.

For what it is ....  I think it is pretty neat.

David, that is quite a  compliment.  I just do what I am able to, and what I enjoy.  I am really not that good at any of it.

I mostly enjoy painting and hand lettering.  I enjoy putting mine out on the tables at a few shows with all the others.  I only win if there aren't many entries, and I don't have a problem with that.  If there is a problem with one of them, they don't even have to judge it.  I really don't mind.  It is fun just to be a part of it.

....You know if you had not said anything about the IROC being a promo, I could have as easily presumed that it was a well executed kit build on your part.....it looks that good   and money very well spent.
  I've got a toy remote control 2007 Mustang that I picked up for a quarter years ago at a yard sale....turns out its 1/25 scale.....some day I'll gut all the r/c stuff and build it into a dirt Late Model.
