DK: And a champion will be decided after 300 miles here at the Nashville Superspeedway. Hello, everyone, I'm Dave Knight joined as always by 3 time NASCAR champion Darrell Waltrip. Welcome to the final Fantasy Cup Series event of the 2025 season, the Gatorade 300. DW, how gratifying would it be to hoist the championship trophy at the end of today?

DW: Dave, this is the weekend that these drivers and teams all work towards. They start the season with fresh paint and straight fenders and fight it out for 6 weeks to get to this point. Sheldon Hatterfield has an 11 point lead over 2013 series champ JR "Razorback" Sealey. Hatterfield just has to not finish last today.

DK: And the voting for the best looking car has awarded 5 bonus points to the #8 Ford team of Steve Hutson putting him 12 points behind Hatterfield. However, if Hutson would win with Hatterfield finishing last, they would tie in the points. Both would have 2 wins but the tie would be broken by virtue of Hatterfield having a 2nd place finish this season.

DW: So that makes it a 2 man battle between 2 previous champions. Hatterfield's been Mr. Consistency and ol' Razorback's gone from the penthouse to the outhouse and back again.

DK: And for the final time in 2025, we go trackside!

Ladies and gentlemen, please rise and remove your hats for the singing of our national anthem.

And now, race fans, it's time for the most famous words in motorsports. Please welcome our Grand Marshal, award winning recording artist Carrie Underwood!

CU: Nashville, are you ready to go racing!? Drivers, start your engines!

Green Flag

DW: Boogity boogity boogity! Let's go racin' for a championship!

DK: Kim Johnson leading the field through turns 1 and 2. This is the longest race on the schedule. 226 laps make up just over 300 miles and the Buick of Amy Hilton is riding in 3rd right next to the 00 of Dude Watson. The inside line working down the back straightaway as points leader Sheldon Hatterfield puts Hilton another spot down. Now she'll settle in 4th and Kim Johnson now has a challenge from Watson. He's got a car length over the 17, goes high. He'll get a run to the inside of Johnson but she'll edge him out by a fender to the line for the first time.

Lap 85

DK: We've had a few movers and shakers here in the last few laps. Steve Hutson has put Amy Hilton in the mirror to take 4th place and he's bringing her boss along with him. JR Sealey works to the outside but gets a good run out of turn 2. Meanwhile the leaders are making their way down pit road for the start of green flag pit stops. Dude Watson follows the 42c of Kim Johnson. They'll take on fresh rubber and fuel which puts Hatterfield into P1 at the line.

Lap 127

DW: Woah, we've got trouble in turn 3! That's the leader, Kim Johnson!

DK: And she just told crew chief Creeb Brooks that she felt like she had a right rear tire going down and it finally came apart. Significant damage to the quarter panel of her Chevrolet. She'll limp around the apron under caution and come in for repairs.

DW: And the Dude's inherited the lead but he's had a mirrorful of the 8 of the Best in Show, Steve Hutson.

Lap 157

DW: And we've got trouble up front again!

DK: Smoke pours from the Buick of Dude Watson! And he's clearly had an engine let go. DW, that's 2 leaders we've had fall victim to misfortune. Kim Johnson was able to get repairs and get back on track but I'm pretty sure this will end Watson's day. He just radioed to team owner John Gorday saying, "We're done. It blew all to pieces." Tough luck for the team out of Jackson, Mississippi.

Lap 203

DK: And JR Sealey has finally run the 17 of Sheldon Hatterfield down and dives off of turn 2 to pass him on the inside!

DW: Ol' Razorback's been making that move look easy and I think Hollywood's gonna be knockin' on the door soon.

DK: Indeed, she's closed the gap between her and the now 3rd place car of Hatterfield by 3/4 of a second in the last 2 laps.

White Flag

DK: One lap to go in Nashville! Steve Hutson leads the charge. He's got a 3 car length advantage over the 46 Buick of Sealey. Meanwhile the battle for 3rd has come down t a door-to-door battle between Amy Hilton and Sheldon Hatterfield. Hatterfield has 4 more corners to hold onto his Ford. He'll stay wide in turns 1 and 2. Hilton takes the spot and the 17 has no more pressure from behind. Hutson coming off the back straightaway into 3 and 4. Sealey now with only a 2 car length deficit. For the win coming out of turn 4. Steve Hutson loses a little more ground to Sealey but it's too little too late. Hutson wins the Gatorade 300 at Nashville! And Sheldon Hatterfield, who never finished outside the top 5 in 2025 will bring it home in 4th to win the Fantasy Cup Series championship!

DW: What a season, Dave! How about that 17 team? They never gave up the points lead!

DW: He won back-to-back at the start of the season and stayed consistent throughout these 2 months. What a dominant performance by the dirt track specialist and now a 2-time series champion.

DK: And with that, we close the book on another exciting season of Fantasy Cup Series racing. For Darrell Waltrip, I'm Dave Knight. Thank you so much for joining us this year and we'll see you again in 2026!

------------------------------------------

I'd love to thank all of the competitors for you're amazing builds and I can't wait to do it all again next year!

Congrats to the #8 on a good win. And a big Congratulations to the #17 team and Sheldon Hatterfield for winning another Championship! Disappointing season for the #6 DERNZCO race team. Didn't take long for Brother Mario (crew chief) to paste a for-sale sign on the windshield. The last we'll be seeing of the T-Bird.

Well this has been fun, already looking forward to next season! Even my wife has gotten into it. I want to thank all of you for participating. I especially want to thank Razorback 46 for heading up the series, compiling the information, doing the story lines and posting the results. Also, thanks to Tom Birky for giving us this site to indulge our hobby!

Seriously, thanks to each and every one of you.

A big thanks from Sheldon Hatterfield,
and his team, to all his sponsors, the other participants who make this possible, and to the folks who put it on. Just have to get a handle on qualifying...
