Have to remove one molding from each side and all the mold lines.







Added headlight and taillight opening covers. Don't know if this car had exhaust coming out of taillights. Cant find a rear view picture of it.

I found a you tube video of the race that this car competed in and found a split second shot of the rear of the car. It was very grainy but you can make out that it did have exhausts coming out of the taillight covers and also showed that the ford emblem was still on the trunk. I had already puttied over the depression where the emblem goes so I had to remove the putty. Luckily it  just popped out in one piece when I  hit it with the exacto knife. It also shows the bungi setup for the trunk and the bungi appears to be a very light color. also the fuel overflow hose comes out of the top of the left taillight cover. I need to make the exhaust pipes a little more thin walled but not go too far.

didn't know those Fords had the exhaust pipes coming out the rear tail lights .. Thanks Mark for that tid-bit !  I though only the fuel over flow tube were there ?  now you have me looking at any 1957 nascar video's to see what else those guy got away with ..lol

Jim, the April 2014 issue of Scale Auto mag has a thorough build article by Clay Kemp on Fireball Roberts 57 Ford dirt car and a lot of little details that one might not think of.  I love your work on this one, Mark.  Going to be one to watch.

Since you took off the side molding and added the tail light exhaust, I'm guessing the Junior Johnson #11? It looks great whatever race car it is!

Added some bungi stays for the hood and trunk. The handle on the hood doubled as a stay and a handle. Still need to add the fuel overflow.

Thanks Pdaly. I got the color blended to match the border on the decals so I hope to be painting the body soon. Going back to model master acryl for this one. I'm making the decal border the color of the car because there is a lot of small script decals for this car. Too small to trim them and look presentable. Also I could not find a spray can that came close enough to match the color of the real  car.

Real interested to see how you do your bungie cords. That's always been a problem for me.

Got the engine put together. I needed a Purolator racing air cleaner like they used back then, so I converted the stock air cleaner that comes in the kit into one that looks some what like a Purolator. Just need to sand it smoother, paint it red, and put some decals on it. I will make the air cleaner fastener look more like a nut

Bob, its going to be hopefully a replica of a car that ran in 1958 on the grand national circuit. One I always wanted to do.
