Finally finished this one. Junior drove this car right after he got out of prison for moonshining. He drove it in 1958 and most of 1959. He won 6 races in 1958 and 5 races in 1959. I built it to look the way it did for the 1958 Southern 500 because those were the only good reference pictures I had of it. Revell kit, Model Master acryl paint, and my own ink jet decals. It took 76 hours to complete. 12.5 of those hours were to create and print the decals.

Here are the ref pictures I used. All were from the 58 Southern 500.

Mark,

This is another fantastic replica build, you turned out another beauty.
I like the detail, the bungee cord looks great for hold downs.
Also excellent work on the decals. It's easy to tell you put a lot of hours into this project. I always thing about keeping track of the amount of time I put into some of my scratch built modified but just never kept track of it.

:)  Amazing, and you know blue and white are my favorite race car colors.  David says it was a very famous car, but I don't  remember it at all.  Before my time, I guess, and that is saying a  lot.

:)  Well, yes, it is a fantastic model.  Just saying I don't remember the 1:1 car, and I go back a long ways.  I don't remember seeing any pictures of it at all.

But I have my own Junior Johnson story.  To keep from stealing this thread, I will tell it in my on post on Bench Racing.

I used an airbrush, but the temperature was a little low that day, so the paint did not come out as smooth as I wanted.
