Back in 67 & 68 I  was stationed in southern California and was a sure thing to be at Orange show in San Berdue every Saturday night. After all with military I.D. it was only $3 to get in. Those try 5 chevys and fords put on a show. they ran a 6 cylinder  and  8 cylinder class and they would qualify 75 to 80 cars weekly. The only oddball was a fellow named Bill Spencer who lost his life at riverside. He ran a mopar with a slant 6 that would flat haul the mail. Man those were the days.
we raced modifieds, legend cars and out west coast pro truck there.tight little track and if you were not scraping the strait away walls...well you just were not driving.Tore stuff every race though!only hold special events there now

By the way that is a great start on that 57 ford! 8)

I finally got some paint on it. Second time around, I got too impatient and over did it on the first try. If I can catch some free time I'd like to get back to it soon.

Why is the engine Pontiac blue, instead of early Ford red? Just curious. Great build, it's good to see a Ford no matter what color the engine is.

I don't get quite that technical with most of my builds. I paint most of my Ford engines blue. Also, I'm doing this car from memory. Mostly about 50 yr old memory so this motor could have been pink for all I know.

...Well it's finally done! It's close and I wish I'd had lowered the back a little! Jimmy was a unsponsored race, who was fast, clean, popular, and won a lot of races. I only had the one black and white to refer to and the rest was out of my memory....

Man Rett...you nailed it bud. It looks GREAT. You memory seems to be working pretty good..

Spot On Rett! So tell me, was there any nudging that went on around there? Good Lord (no pun intended), Jimmy's Ford in the photo as well as the car behind him could be used for Push Vehicles! Really nice build Rett and yes, I like those "Excuse Me" bumpers on those cars!

Yeah, we all used the "booger bars" back then. Around '70, some of us started trying to make ours to look like the USAC cars without all that big stuff hanging out. Then the Modifieds were gone and these cars became late models in 1973. Yes, there was a tad of pushing and shoving.....lol

Great looking replica, especially with a single black-and-white photo for reference!
