Just finished this one last night and I had more fun building this than I have for a long time. Simple, straight forward, just a car that an average guy would drive every day to his factory job back when we were a special country. The timeless beauty and functionality of this old Ford refuses to be dismissed even after nearly 80 years. American parts, American built, American ingenuity!

I appreciate people that actually build and post models.

The build is great, and the color is a nice shade for this car. But, you knew there would be a "But". The taillights, and grill, are '40 items, not '39. Just sayin'.

Really clean build of an old classic "comfort" kit.  It is not as easy as one might think to get those old dogs to look nice but you did very well.  Crisp and clean.   Older, how bout you post up YOUR 39 build for us to compare?  Just sayin'.

Nobody makes the parts to do a correct '39 deluxe coupe. Nobody makes the dash, or the banjo steering wheel, that I know of.It's also almost impossible to find the '39 headlights without a big notch in them, where they were ripped from the tree. The 39/40 sedan kit has a hood that could be detailed to look like a '39, but they are hard to get your hands on. I've worked two trades with theoretically pretty knowledgeable modelers, and got a deluxe '40 hood both times.
This is one of the first kits I built back in the day. My uncle had a '39 deluxe sedan, and pointed out all the shortcomings of the kit. It's also one of my numerous pet peeves.

My favorite car of all time David!! I had a '40 sdn street rod for many years. It's somewhere around Detroit now. Love this one.

No doubt about it, Edsel Ford was a design genius, it's such a shame they chose to honor him by naming a butt ugly car after him. The Fords, Lincoln's, and Mercury's he designed were like show cars that accidentally got put into production.

Great looking '40 Ford!!!
Love those old AMT '40 Ford kits.......except the latest re-issue when it was done in bright orange......original gray or black plastic would have been better than that orange......

Built one back in the day when I was getting started on building.....in fact I either have that kit, or one I inherited from an older brother.....
And yes.....unpainted, built literally out of the box......Paint did not arrive on my builds until 1971....
